Press Release: Torrens Connect Seamlessly Transitions Management of Adelaide Trams During Covid-19

Adelaide Australia - August 2020

Fulfilling its commitment to simpler, faster and more connected journeys, Torrens Connect seamlessly transitioned management of Adelaide tram operations on 5 July 2020.

A joint venture between John Holland, UGL and Transit Systems (a subsidiary of the SeaLink Travel Group), Torrens Connect was granted an eight-year contract to manage the Adelaide tram network. An important aspect to the success of the handover was technology-driven, backed by the Trapeze platform, which saw Torrens Connect transition operations to plan and without disruption or delay to services, schedules or staff rosters.

“A significant amount of commitment, long hours and hard work led to this exceptional achievement by Torrens Connect,” said Ben Dvoracek, Trapeze General Manager for Rail in ANZ.

“We are proud to be part of this changeover, with Torrens Connect selecting Trapeze Group for both the bidding process and long-term roll-out of the planning and scheduling software solution.  It was a pleasure to work with the team and facilitate implementation in less than four weeks.”

Completing the transition during the COVID-19 pandemic put even greater demands on the team to ensure that the switchover ran smoothly. “Using the Trapeze software to run simulation models, Torrens Connect provided accurate optimised timetables that were quickly implemented without impacting operations” John Holland Service Delivery Manager Rachel Parkin said. Torrens Connect staff received training directly from the local Trapeze team on modelling different operational scenarios to respond rapidly to changing service needs and will continue with ongoing COVID-safe remote training and support to ensure continued smooth running for Adelaide trams.

Torrens Connect operates 24 tram sets, over 200 buses and employs more than 250 staff members, delivering world-class tram and bus services across Adelaide.
